Diana (Giberson) Farthing is an author, poet, photographer, and retired Federal Aviation Administration manager.

She has lived in Topeka, Kansas, for eighteen years, in a 100-year-old home she renovated. She calls her home “The Breton Manor”, although definitely not a European-sized manor. Think of the movie, “The Money Pit”.

Diana has one grown child, a daughter, Tara, and two grandsons, Alex and James. She is happy that they live a short distance from her.  She lives with one dog, a Champion Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, named Pepper.

She hopes to publish the first of her Fantasy Trilogy, soon. Plus, enter two short stories and a poem in the next contests. After retiring, Diana has been much happier having time to spend on her favorite obsessions, writing, reading, her camera, and traveling.
Her love of books started very young, as her father frequently moved his family around the world and within the U.S. with his job in the oil industry. She based her life on fictional characters’ experiences, lacking few social ties. after each move.

To support her love of books, Diana taught electronics and avionics communications in the Air Force, starting when she was 18. After the Air Force, she worked as a computer technician for Control Data Corporation. Then, she was an instructor teaching electronics, computers, and robotics for Control Data Institution, ITT, and Mt. San Antonio College, in Southern California. She finished the last 30 years of working in the Federal Aviation Administration.

Hobbies during her lifetime:
Books, books, and more books! Audiobooks kept her from losing her mind while she commuted at least a million miles working for the FAA.
She has played World of Warcraft for 20 years. That might be insane, but it is fun!
Diana loves good movies and some TV series.
Horses – Morgans and Quarter Horses – Raised and showed Morgans – Trail rode a Quarter Horse
Dogs – owned Aladdin Australian Shepherds for 35 years – raised, bred, and showed Aussies. Some of her puppies and dogs were shown around the world.
– owned Aladdin Whippets – raised, bred, and shown for 12 years
– enjoyed owning and showing Portuguese Podengo Pequenos
Travel – Diana has been lucky enough to travel with her nephew, Joe, a flight attendant for United Airlines. Their first trip was in 2009 to Dublin, Ireland. In 2018, they flew to Venice to get on a cruise ship. Diana and Joe visited Italy, Greece, Albania, and Croatia. She was excited in Croatia, to be able to climb up to the Red Keep (Game of Thrones) in Dubrovnik. Yes, she sat on the Iron Throne.
For the most fabulous adventure, Diana and Joe went to New Zealand (both islands) in 2019. Yes, they are both fans of J. R. R. Tolkien.

With friends, Diana has cruised from Alaska to Victoria, B.C., Canada. She has traveled, twice, to the Caribbean, Yucatan, and Belize, and once to the Bahamas.

Late last May 2023, she and Pepper took a 6 week road trip. They went from Kansas to Albuquerque, New Mexico to visit her step-dad. They road the train to Santa Fe, NM. Yes, she took her camera! From New Mexico, she head to California to visit friends and family. Of course, Diana met up with her best photographer friends and they went along Hwy 1 to a B&B in Cayucos, CA. Lots of photos were shot between Pismo Beach to San Simeon, plus took a side trip to Solvang. They ate lots of seafood during that week! When her friends headed back to San Diego, she headed west to see her sister and brother-in-law for a short visit in Clovis, CA. It would be the last time her sister and she would enjoy sushi together, unbeknownst to either of them. After leaving Clovis, Diana and Pepper headed north and visited an Uncle and Aunt, plus friends.
Diana and Pepper traveled farther north to Oregon to see another Uncle and two cousins. In Sisters, OR, Diana met two Facebook friends in person. They were more than gracious to not only let her stay with them, but to take her for a tour of the area. Yes, volcanos and lava beds! They all brought their cameras!
To end the road trip, Diana stayed at a retired FAA friend’s home in Reno, Nevada. Pepper loved spending time there, since they did a lot of hiking around the area. It was her friend’s birthday, so she took him out for to Ruth’s Chris Steak House. That was an experience!
At the end of the 6 weeks, it was good to get back home, and sleep in her own bed. Diana’s trip filled up a lot of new memories and awesome photos.

Sad to announce, but Diana’s sister passed away from a brain tumor in March 2024. In May, Diana flew out to her sister’s memorial in Long Island, New York. Although, there was sorrow and tears, she was happy to be able to visit with her nephew, Joe, and her niece, Cadie, and Cadie’s husband and four children.
